Sample interview questions
In my previous role, I worked as a business analyst on an Agile team. I collaborated with the product owner to write user stories, define acceptance criteria, and prioritize the backlog based on business value and stakeholder feedback. I also participated in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to ensure continuous improvement.
I would first listen to the stakeholder's request to fully understand their needs. Then, I would explain the product vision and how the requested feature might deviate from it. I would work together to find an alternative solution that addresses their core need while staying aligned with the vision. If necessary, I would escalate to the product owner for guidance.
During a sprint, we needed to decide on a technical approach for a new feature but lacked complete data on user behavior. I consulted with the team to gather available data and assumptions, then facilitated a discussion to weigh the risks and benefits. We decided on a minimal viable approach that could be tested quickly, allowing us to gather more information and iterate.
In my previous role, I worked on a product that handled sensitive customer data. I collaborated with legal and compliance teams to ensure our features adhered to GDPR and CCPA regulations. I helped document data flows and implemented consent management features, ensuring compliance while maintaining a good user experience.
I use a combination of business value, effort estimation, and strategic alignment. I typically facilitate a prioritization session with stakeholders using techniques like MoSCoW or weighted scoring. I also consider dependencies and risks. Ultimately, I align with the product vision and seek input from the product owner to make final decisions.
